What's the best electricity plan?

To find the best electricity plan for your home, it's important to consider your specific circumstances and needs. Regularly comparing plans, at least annually, can help you avoid overpaying for your energy usage.

Your current provider's offer might not be the most competitive one available because:

  • Your discount period has ended
  • You may have rolled over to a default offer, (which is the maximum price you can be charged for electricity when discounts have expired).
  • Your energy provider may have increased their rates,
  • A different tariff might better suit your current energy needs.

Use our service to help you make an informed decision. Review and compare
energy providers and options. Estimate your monthly, quarterly and yearly
energy costs to help you choose the best fit and take into consideration, key
information such as:

Movinghub Pricing

Pricing

  • Daily supply charge (cents per day)
  • Usage charges (cents per kilowatt-hour)

Movinghub Pricing

Discount & Benefits

  • Benefit period (e.g., discount for 12-24 months)
  • Applicable discounts and other perks
  • New customer sign-up credits (applied to your bill)

Fees

  • Paper bill fees
  • Depending on where you live, you can also use the Default Market Offer (DMO) or Victorian Default Offer (VDO) to get an idea of what a reasonable price for electricity should be, as set by the Australian Government.

When comparing offers, it's important to check for any required criteria or
conditions you must meet to qualify.

Information for
customers who are in an
embedded network

What is an embedded network?

An embedded network is an electrical setup common in multi-tenanted properties like apartment buildings, retirement villages, caravan parks, and shopping centers. This configuration enables the property owner to purchase and then resell electricity to the tenants or residents on-site. In some cases, the energy might even be generated locally.

Most people that sell energy in embedded networks are known as "exempt sellers" because they do not need to become authorised by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) as energy retailers.

However, these exempt sellers must possess a valid exemption from the AER and adhere to specific regulations designed to safeguard consumer rights.

Can I switch energy
providers?

Australia's electricity market is mainly deregulated. This means private companies compete to set retail electricity prices, rather than these prices being controlled by government tariffs.

You can generally compare energy plans in fully deregulated markets such as:

  • South East Queensland
  • New South Wales
  • The ACT
  • South Australia
  • Victoria.

Plan options may be limited for residents in partially deregulated markets such as Tasmania (limited provider options) and Western Australia (gas market deregulated in Perth, but electricity largely regulated). Electricity prices in regulated areas are regulated by your state or territory government, not individual providers. Therefore, our service does not offer plans in those regions.
